In July 2012, BGI signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Osu Stool, the landowners of a 60 plus acre parcel on Osu Beach. This beachfront site, named “Promenade Accra” is located next to the Osu Castle, the former home of the Executive Branch of Ghana, and a landmark in Accra, Promenade Accra will be a multi-use development to include, international hotels, retail, office and residential development, as well a boardwalk promenade, a first in Accra, for leisure activities. Given the size and location of the site, Promenade Accra has the potential to be a landmark destination in Ghana. The site is in close proximity and easily accessible from Oxford Street in Osu, the busiest commercial thoroughfare in Accra. BGI has engaged HWK + Purcell of the United Kingdom to design a master plan for the site, and have met with the Mayor of Accra, Dr. Alfred Oko Vanderpuiye and The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, who have expressed strong commitments in developing the project as it will benefit Accra residents by providing jobs and opportunities associated with site development and management.
