 Basketball receives another boos
 As part of her CSR activities, BG International (real estate developers) has partnered GEM with Hope foundation as a sponsor, to help train and develop basketball talents in the country.  The GEM with Hope Foundation is an NGO that uses basketball as a tool to inspire the minds and hearts of the youth within our communities, to dream and hope for a brighter and better future.                

 

GEM’s primary goal is to use the game of basketball to increase academic interest in the youth, at the same time increasing the annual school retention rate at all educational levels, while creating various career paths. Again it is to foster a commitment to young people that will promote a sense of hope for the future, with the capability to participate in a global economy, contribute in intent and skills towards community development.

The NGO already has as part of its body, the DC Dynamics team, Galaxy Basketball Academy and Tema Youth Basketball team.

Mr Irwin Barkan, CEO of BG International, expressed his happiness and excitement about being associated with an activity that will help develop basketball in the country as well as unearth talents in young people. He encouraged the players in the various teams to take the game of basketball seriously and pledged BGI’s support in seeing that the dreams of the foundation are realized.

BGI donates towards street-lighting project in Gbawe Irwin Barkan

BG International (BGI), a US-based real estate development firm with an office in Ghana, has donated $10,000 towards a street-lighting project for the Gbawe community, a suburb of Accra.The donation was made at a durbar held to climax the celebration of the Homowo festival in Gbawe recently.

Mr. Irwin Barkan, Chief Executive Officer of BGI, said the donation was to restart the street-lighting project which began some years ago but was never completed. He promised to provide additional funding for the project “until all the 130 light poles are shining bright at night on the 14 streets and roadways identified in the community.”

Akanmajay celebrates Homowo

 The descendants of the Akanmajay Stool, one of the principal stools of the Ga Mashie traditional area, celebrated their annual Homowo festival on the 15th of September, 2014.
During the grand durbar, their development partners, BGI, and its CEO, Irwin Barkan, were honoured for their role in the development of their community as a whole.

Mr. Barkan donated $5000 towards the scholarship fund which is being ran by the Akanmajay Stool. This fund is to educate about 100 students from the basic to the secondary level.
BGI to help re-build Mallam market

Mr Irwin Barkan, CEO of BG International (BGI) has donated an undisclosed amount of money to the  Mallam market traders and pledged BGI’s support in the re-construction of the Mallam market.

Mr Barkan made this pledge on the occasion of  a memorial ceremony to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the day known to the market women as ‘red day’.

Two years ago, on the 15th October, 2012, fire gutted the Mallam market and destroyed foodstuffs and properties worth tens of thousands of cedis.  BG International, which is preparing the groundwork for a multi-purpose shopping mall at the Mallam junction pledged its support in the light of the fact that the Mallam market traders are stakeholders in the mall project.

The construction of a multipurpose mall facility will commence at Mallam Junction in May this year, United States

(U.S.)-based development firm, BG International (BGI) has announced.

The over US$60 million complex, to be located adjacent to the George W. Bush Motorway and the Accra-Takoradi Expressway interchange, will be anchored by Shoprite, the largest grocer in Africa.

BGI, LLC Commissions Safe Water Station

“BG International, an American-based development firm, in collaboration with Safe Water Network, has commissioned a Safe Water Station at Yawkwei in the Ashanti region.

The safe water station is expected to serve over 12,000 people in four villages in the Ashanti region.

The station pumps raw water from existing boreholes and treats it through chlorination to meet World Health Organization’s (WHO) standards.”
